Central Bank of UAE Launches Financial Health Innovation Challenge

Accra:The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has unveiled the Financial Health Innovation Challenge, which aims to find practical solutions to enhance the financial well-being of individuals and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the UAE. Applications for this initiative are open until November 30, 2026.

According to Emirates News Agency, the challenge is being conducted in partnership with the Alliance for Innovative Regulation (AIR), the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, and the Emirates Institute of Finance. It supports the UAE National Financial Inclusion Strategy 2026-2030 and the UAE National Financial Literacy Strategy 2027-2031, both of which target the advancement of inclusive finance and the strengthening of financial capabilities.

The challenge offers a platform for financial institutions and innovators to test market-ready solutions and collect evidence of their effectiveness in enhancing financial health. It concentrates on four core areas managing day-to-day finances, absorbing financial shocks, pursuing long-term financial goals, and making informed financial decisions.

Priority is given to segments such as low-income earners, Emirati families, investors, women, MSMEs, young individuals and children, People of Determination, and older individuals and pensioners. Eligible solutions must address one of the specified areas, be beyond the idea or prototype phase, be deployable and testable in the UAE, and comply with data-protection and information-security standards.

Participants will have access to readiness clinics, expert guidance, facilitated interaction with financial institutions, support for pilot design, and grants for eligible applicants. The review, matching, and pilot-design phase is scheduled from December 2026 to March 2027, with pilot implementation and outcome sharing from April to August 2027. However, selection for the challenge does not ensure pilot implementation. Applications are open to both UAE-based and international organizations.
