Sharjah: The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) officially launched the Emirates Hospitality Sustainability Alliance (EHSA) to advance environmental sustainability across the UAE's hospitality sector through greater collaboration and measurable action. The launch event took place at Coral Beach Resort Sharjah, bringing together hospitality leaders, sustainability professionals, industry stakeholders, and partners to exchange expertise, encourage innovation, and address shared environmental priorities.
According to Emirates News Agency, the establishment of EHSA responds to the scale and complexity of today's environmental challenges, which require greater collaboration, knowledge exchange, and coordinated action across the industry. EHSA will target key sustainability challenges within the hospitality industry, such as energy and water consumption, waste and food waste, procurement, supply chains, resource efficiency, and consumer behavior.
Dr. Habiba Al Mar'ashi, Co-Founder and Chairperson of the EEG, stated that the alliance aims to connect existing sustainability efforts within the hospitality sector and provide a platform for collective action. She emphasized the need for sustainability to move beyond aspirations or isolated initiatives to create meaningful change by understanding current standings, identifying areas for improvement, and measuring progress. EHSA has been established to facilitate the collaborative environment necessary for this journey.
The alliance will also seek cooperation with government entities, suppliers, service providers, sustainability professionals, environmental organizations, and academia, recognizing the role of the wider hospitality ecosystem in driving environmental progress. Dr. Al Mar'ashi noted that the success of the initiative would be measured by the partnerships created, improvements in practices, conservation of resources, prevention of waste, and the measurable environmental improvements that follow.
She further highlighted that the UAE hospitality sector is globally recognized for its ambition, innovation, and pursuit of excellence, and now has the opportunity to ensure that environmental leadership becomes an equally defining characteristic.
