Strasbourg: Sara Mohammad Falaknaz, a member of the Federal National Council (FNC), and Lina G¡lvez, Chair of the Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Committee and member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy at the European Parliament, discussed ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation between the FNC and the European Parliament during a meeting held as part of the FNC delegation’s visit to the European Parliament headquarters in Strasbourg, France.
According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting focused on issues of mutual interest, notably women empowerment, strengthening women’s participation in decision-making positions, and their role in peace and security issues. Additionally, the discussion included supporting multilateral action and addressing hate speech and discrimination.
Sara Falaknaz emphasized the UAE’s experience in empowering women, stating that Emirati women play a significant role in development and decision-making, supported by the country’s leadership since the Union’s establishment. She also talked about the UAE’s progress in peaceful nuclear energy, highlighting that the nation’s nuclear power plants adhere to international safety, security, and transparency standards, with cooperation from the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Lina G¡lvez commended the UAE’s efforts in women empowerment, particularly in achieving balance in parliamentary representation. She noted that several European countries continue to face challenges in this area, underscoring the importance of the dialogue between the two parliamentary bodies.
