General Women’s Union Unveils ‘Drug Prevention Track’ to Combat Cyber Threats

The General Women's Union (GWU) has announced the development of the 'Drug Prevention Track,' a strategic component of the 'Cyber Pulse for Women and Family' initiative. This new project aims to bolster prevention efforts against drug promotion through cyberspace.

According to Emirates News Agency, the 'Drug Prevention Track' was introduced during the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. It results from collaboration between the GWU, the National Anti-Narcotics Authority, the UAE Cybersecurity Council, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The initiative benefits from the experience of the 'Cyber Pulse for Women and Family' initiative, supported by H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. It has already trained over 200 trainers and reached more than 600,000 people, addressing the challenges posed by drug promotion via social media and electronic games.

Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women's Union, emphasized the national responsibility to protect families and youth. She highlighted the importance of integrating national and international efforts to counteract the emerging threats posed by cyberspace to young people.

Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cyber Security for the UAE Government, underscored the need for families to understand grooming techniques targeting youth. He mentioned that the 'Drug Prevention Track' will help parents become more aware of potential digital risks.

Rashid Hamad Al Shamsi, Director-General of the National Anti-Narcotics Authority, reiterated the UAE's proactive approach to societal protection. He noted the importance of family as the first line of defense against drug promotion through digital platforms, emphasizing the need for effective partnerships to combat these challenges.
