Abu Dhabi:Two-time Major champion Jon Rahm is set to make his debut at the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship next month. He will join a world-class field for the opening event of the DP World Tour Play-Offs, taking place at Yas Links from November 5-8.
According to Emirates News Agency, Rahm's participation comes as he looks to build on his impressive record in the Rolex Series. The Spaniard, a ten-time winner on the DP World Tour, shares the record for the most titles with Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton, each boasting five wins. Rahm has previously found success in the UAE, with three victories at the DP World Tour Championship in 2017, 2019, and 2022, and two Irish Open triumphs in 2017 and 2019. His achievements include becoming the first Spaniard since Seve Ballesteros to top the Race to Dubai Rankings Delivered by DP World.
Rahm expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating, "I've had some of the best weeks of my career in the UAE, so I'm really looking forward to playing in Abu Dhabi for the first time." He also mentioned anticipation for playing at Yas Links and starting the tournament in Abu Dhabi before heading to Dubai the following week.
The championship will feature defending champion and US PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai, alongside six-time Major champion Rory McIlroy, who is aiming for a record-equalling eighth Race to Dubai title. Organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the DP World Tour, the tournament will include the leading 70 available players from the Race to Dubai Rankings Delivered by DP World. The top 50 players will then qualify for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai the following week.
