MoEI and MoIAT Collaborate to Enhance Industrial Energy Efficiency at ‘Make it in the Emirates Forum’

Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT), convened the Industrial Energy Efficiency Roundtable at the 'Make it in the Emirates' forum. This significant event brought together federal and local government entities, private sector leaders, and technology providers to discuss actionable pathways for enhancing industrial energy efficiency.

According to Emirates News Agency, the roundtable underscored the UAE's industrial sector as a vital component of national economic development. As the nation accelerates its transition toward a net-zero future, improving energy efficiency in manufacturing and heavy industry is crucial. The challenge is to reduce emissions without compromising productivity, job creation, or competitiveness.

Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, stated, "As the global community pushes forward toward a net-zero future, the UAE continues to lead with vision and action. Our industrial sector is both a cornerstone of national economic growth and a key player in the decarbonisation journey." He highlighted that globally, industry consumes more than 30 percent of all energy and is responsible for approximately a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions. In the UAE, the industrial sector accounts for around 60 percent of total national energy consumption, presenting a significant opportunity to enhance competitiveness, resilience, and cost savings through improved energy efficiency.

The MoEI has launched the Federal Energy Management Regulation for Industrial Facilities, establishing a clear legal and technical framework for energy performance improvement. In partnership with MoIAT, the MoEI also developed and launched the Industry Registry Platform, a centralised digital solution to oversee energy consumption and drive accountability and transparency in industrial operations.

Osama Amir Fadhel, Assistant Undersecretary of the Industry Accelerators Sector at MoIAT, emphasized the Ministry's focus on sustainable industrial growth and technological transformation. The Ministry has rolled out a series of programmes and initiatives to promote sustainability, including the Industrial Decarbonisation Roadmap and the Industrial Sustainability Alliance, which aims to enhance the adoption of green technologies and strengthen manufacturing capabilities.

Fadhel also noted the importance of partnering with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure on the Energy Demand Side Management project and integrating the Industrial Technology Transformation Index with the National In-Country Value Programme through the Green ICV Initiative to promote sustainability practices. Additional initiatives, such as a product conformity platform, reaffirm the Ministry's commitment to a sustainable industrial sector that significantly contributes to the national GDP.
