Sharjah:The University of Sharjah (UoS) has made significant advancements in the 2027 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, entering the 301-325 band globally.
According to Emirates News Agency, the university ranked fifth worldwide on the international outlook indicator and secured the 54th position globally for research quality. Nationally, it placed third among universities in the United Arab Emirates and led all Emirati institutions in research quality.
The international outlook indicator measures a university's global openness based on its ability to attract international students and faculty, as well as the scope of its research collaborations with institutions abroad. The research quality indicator evaluates the impact of a university's scholarship within the scientific community by analyzing citation frequency.
Professor Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, noted that these rankings highlight the institution's dedication to diversity and research excellence. He emphasized that being among the top five universities globally for international outlook demonstrates the diversity integral to the university's academic identity, enriching students' educational experiences.
Furthermore, Professor Agamy stressed that the university's high ranking in research quality should encourage more investment in researchers, laboratories, and international partnerships. The focus will be on studies addressing societal challenges and creating impact beyond academic publications.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings assess research-intensive universities across five pillars: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook, and Industry, using 18 performance indicators to determine global standings.
