150 Chinese Companies Join 2025 Global Unicorn Top 500 List

Beijing: A total of 150 Chinese companies have been listed in the 2025 Global Unicorn Top 500, with Chinese companies maintaining their global lead in both number and market value, according to the latest list released on Wednesday. Statistics show that the combined valuation of these top 500 enterprises reached 39.14 trillion yuan (approximately US$5.5 trillion), marking a year-on-year rise exceeding 30 percent.

According to Emirates News Agency, the list is predominantly comprised of companies from the United States and China. The sectors represented by these unicorns include financial technology, information technology, and advanced manufacturing. Notably, the artificial intelligence segment experienced a significant increase of 80 percent, with the number of AI unicorns rising from 20 to 36. Within this global trend, China's AI unicorn count surged from 2 to 9, reflecting a 350 percent increase.

Currently, China holds the leading position in the world in terms of the number of unicorn enterprises in advanced manufacturing, automotive technology, transportation and logistics, life services, and cultural tourism media. Unicorns are defined as privately owned companies valued at over US$1 billion and established within the past decade, acting as an essential indicator of the innovation capacity and economic vitality of a country or region.
