1st forum of internal auditors in Yemeni banks and financial institutions held

The first forum of internal auditors in Yemeni banks and financial institutions was held in Sana’a on Wednesday.

The forum organized by the Institute of Banking Studies in cooperation with the Association of Internal Auditors.

It aimed to discuss ways to develop the skills of internal auditors in Yemeni banks and financial institutions to enhance cooperation with the Association of Auditors and various institutions, and to identify changes in international internal auditing standards.

Undersecretary of the Central Bank of Yemen for Banking Supervision Sector Fawaz al-Banna pointed out the importance of holding the forum and its role in developing the profession of internal auditors.

Al-Banna pointed out that this forum is a professional gathering and a qualitative addition to enhancing the performance of internal auditors, indicating the importance of the positive role of internal auditors in detecting strengths, weaknesses and deviations that represent risks according to their degree.

He touched on the importance of enhancing skills and capabilities and developing performance in the field of internal audit in line with best professional practices and keeping abreast of developments and changes, especially in light of the acceleration of the modern business pattern that relies on information technology systems and artificial intelligence.

Al-Banna explained that the Central Bank of Yemen issued supervisory instructions that defined the main lines of the internal control and audit system to organize the work of the internal auditor and the control process and define their responsibilities and duties in order to achieve the pillars of a strong and sound internal control and audit system.

He affirmed the bank’s readiness to provide all kinds of technical and professional support and everything that facilitates the tasks and work of the internal auditors, praising the efforts of the Institute of Banking Studies and the Association of Internal Auditors in organizing this forum and all the participants in it.

For his part, Director General of the Institute of Banking Studies, Abdul-Ghani al-Samawi indicated that this forum aims to exchange expertise and experiences, present all that is new in the internal audit profession, and find ways and means to develop their skills.

He touched on the Institute’s efforts to raise the level of professional competence in the banking and financial sector, pointing to the importance of the work of the internal auditor in ensuring the integrity of procedures, stressing the importance of coming up with recommendations that contribute to the advancement of the profession.

Al-Samawi touched on the objectives of the Institute of Banking Studies in advancing the level of technical and professional competence for all employees of the banking sector, spreading the culture and theoretical and applied banking sciences, and developing and developing banking service methods in Yemen.

Head of the Yemeni Internal Auditors Association Hisham al-Atna reviewed the plans and programs of the association aimed at developing the profession and keeping abreast of everything new in it at the world level.

He pointed out that the association aims to support and raise the level of the internal audit profession in the Republic of Yemen and develop it and assist internal auditors in performing internal audit work in accordance with relevant legislation and recognized international professional standards.

He pointed out that this forum is a great opportunity to exchange information and best practices in this aspect.

He urged the need to focus on issues of interest to the profession, especially in light of the development and transformation in the field of internal auditing.
