Arab Government Sustainability Fellowship Celebrates Graduation of First Cohort

Dubai: The Arab Government Sustainability Fellowship, the region's first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at empowering public sector leaders in sustainability, has celebrated the graduation of its inaugural cohort. This event marks a notable step in the ongoing efforts across the Arab region to enhance environmental governance.

According to Emirates News Agency, the fellowship was organized by the UAE Government Development and Future Office, in collaboration with the Arab Administrative Development Organisation (ARADO), an entity under the League of Arab States, and the Posterity Institute. This initiative is a testament to the commitment to fostering joint Arab action and leadership in sustainability, focusing on setting clear goals and achieving tangible results.

Ohood Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, emphasized the centrality of sustainability in future governance, highlighting its importance in preparing governments and societies for the rapid changes anticipated in the coming years. The fellowship is seen as a pivotal move by the UAE Government towards initiating a new era of regional leadership in sustainability.

Dr. Nasser Alqahtani, Director-General of ARADO, underscored the necessity for cross-border, cross-sector, and intergenerational collaboration in achieving sustainability. He expressed ARADO's pride in supporting the transformation of governmental institutions in the region, aiming for a future built on innovation, resilience, and impact.

Dr. Yasar Jarrar, Managing Director of the Posterity Institute, described the fellowship as a turning point for the region's approach to public sector sustainability. He highlighted the program's role in preparing a new generation of government leaders equipped to address current climate, economic, and social challenges.

Wael Ismail, PepsiCo Vice President for Corporate Affairs in the Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan, commented on the immediate impact of climate change on the region, stressing the necessity for collaboration between governments and businesses. He noted that the fellowship is a crucial step in building the skills and partnerships required for a sustainable future.
