Arab League Bestows Leading Arab Personality Award in Sustainable Development on Fujairah Crown Prince

Cairo: The League of Arab States, represented by its Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, honoured H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, with the Leading Arab Personality Award in Sustainable Development during the Arab Sustainability Day 2025 ceremony. The event, held under the theme 'Raising Awareness of the Importance of Sustainability in the Arab Region,' took place at the League's headquarters in Cairo.

According to Emirates News Agency, the ceremony commenced with a speech by Ahmed Aboul Gheit. He emphasized the significance of celebrating Arab Sustainability Day, which underscores the importance of promoting sustainable development concepts and achieving a balance among its three dimensions: economic, social, and environmental. This is particularly crucial given the growing challenges and rapid changes across the Arab world in various fields.

Ambassador Dr. Nada Al-Ajezi, Director of the Department of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation Department - General Secretariat of the Arab League, highlighted that Arab Sustainability Day aims to serve as a media engine. It emphasizes the achievements of Arab countries and stakeholders in implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The initiative seeks to foster an Arab environment supportive of these efforts, providing a platform for the exchange of knowledge, expertise, best practices, and experiences to build a better future for the Arab region.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi delivered a keynote speech at the event, expressing the shared responsibility and goal of working together towards implementing best environmental practices and achieving sustainable development goals. His Highness stressed the importance of these efforts in key sectors that enhance quality of life and empower communities.

He further noted that the United Arab Emirates prioritizes environmental sustainability within its future vision and national development strategies, recognizing its role in ensuring individual stability, empowering communities, and supporting economic growth. The UAE's commitment to environmental and climate action extends to both regional and international levels.

His Highness also referenced the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, highlighting environmental sustainability as a core element of Fujairah's comprehensive government vision. This focus includes strategic sectors such as mining, mineral wealth, oil, ship bunkering, and marine ecosystem conservation to protect fish resources.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed praised the Arab League's efforts in organizing Arab Sustainability Day 2025, describing it as a pivotal Arab event addressing environmental sustainability issues and seeking solutions. The event aims to open new horizons for strategic partnerships and pioneering projects at both Arab and global levels to achieve sustainable development goals.

During the event, H.H. witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements between the Government of Fujairah and the League of Arab States. He also honored several distinguished individuals in the field of sustainability whose efforts have had a regional impact.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Mohammed Al Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament; Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, Director of the Crown Prince of Fujairah's Office; Hamdan Karam Al Kaabi, Director of the Private Office of the Crown Prince of Fujairah; and Engineer Aseela Al Mualla, Director of the Fujairah Environment Authority.
