Bodour Al Qasimi Announces Greece as Guest of Honour of 44th SIBF

Sharjah: Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), has announced Greece as the Guest of Honour for the 44th edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF). She emphasised that Greece, with its significant historical legacy and global cultural impact, remains an essential pillar in the continuing narrative of human creativity. The announcement was made during a signing ceremony at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition and Congress Centre in Greece.

According to Emirates News Agency, the agreement was formalised by Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, and Yasonas Varthalitis, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Hellenic Republic. Sheikha Bodour highlighted Greece's timeless contribution to knowledge and enlightenment, noting its influence through epic works, philosophical ideals, and theatrical innovations. She stated that Sharjah's cultural journey is guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, and hosting Greece is a step towards embracing cultural dialogue and exchange.

Sheikha Bodour further expressed that Greece's participation in the upcoming SIBF offers an opportunity to explore shared myths and stories that have influenced human consciousness. She explained that the SBA is dedicated to making the 44th edition a milestone event by featuring Greece, a nation that, alongside the Arab world, has played a pivotal role in shaping civilisation.

In his comments, Al Ameri reiterated the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi to promote global cultural exchange. He noted that Greece's involvement as Guest of Honour in 2025 enriches the fair's legacy of international partnerships, providing a platform for cultural engagement and intellectual exchange.

Varthalitis highlighted the spirit of friendship and collaboration that defines the relationship between Greece and the UAE. He mentioned the efforts of the Greek Minister of Culture in fostering a strong foundation for cooperation with the UAE, reflecting a commitment to cultural exchange through various initiatives. He expressed gratitude to the SBA for the collaborative partnership and anticipates a dynamic programme that will showcase Greek literary and cultural talent.

As Guest of Honour, Greece will present a comprehensive programme of cultural and literary events at the 44th SIBF. The programme will encompass classical philosophy, theatre, poetry, contemporary literature, and visual arts, featuring prominent Greek authors and artists. Educational segments will focus on significant milestones in Greek cultural history and its lasting contributions to civilisation.
