Emerge and Turbotim Collaborate on Solar and Battery Storage Project in Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah: Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and the EDF Group, has signed an agreement with Turbotim, a UAE-based energy solutions company, during the Make it in the Emirates Forum. The partnership aims to develop a solar and battery energy storage project at Turbotim's facilities in Ras Al Khaimah.

According to Emirates News Agency, the project will include a rooftop solar PV system with a capacity of 1.52 megawatts peak (MWp) and a 5 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS). It will consist of two hybrid installations, each with 763kWp of rooftop solar and 2.5MWh of battery storage. Emerge will handle the project's finance, design, procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance over a 20-year contract.

Turbotim currently relies on diesel generators for its operations. The transition to solar PV electricity generation and BESS is set to significantly reduce the company's environmental impact and electricity costs. The project is expected to prevent over 2.1 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equating to the annual electricity consumption of 240 households or removing 474 petrol-powered cars from the road.

Dr. Saad Al Tameemi, Turbotim Chairman, emphasized the importance of the partnership with Emerge in advancing towards more sustainable energy solutions. The integration of solar and battery storage is anticipated to enhance energy independence and cost savings while supporting the UAE's sustainability goals.

Michel Abi Saab, Emerge General Manager, highlighted the significance of the agreement in reducing fossil fuel reliance and promoting sustainable solutions. Emerge, established in 2021, specializes in distributed solar, battery storage, off-grid solar, and hybrid solutions for various sectors. The company currently provides clean electricity to over 40 sites across the GCC region.
