Emirates Intellectual Property Association Strengthens Partnership with WIPO

Geneva: Emirates Intellectual Property Association (EIPA) Chairman, Major General Dr. Abdul Quddus Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidly, highlighted the strategic importance of the association's partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in establishing robust systems for the protection of intellectual property rights. Al Obaidly, who also serves as Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Excellence and Pioneering Affairs at Dubai Police, made these remarks during the 66th session of the General Assembly meetings of WIPO held at its Geneva headquarters.

According to Emirates News Agency, the meetings that continue until 17th July gather official delegations and representatives from member states and relevant international organisations. Major General Al Obaidly emphasized the association's dedication to collaborating with the WIPO Academy to implement several targeted programmes. These include a 'Training of Trainers' initiative aimed at preparing specialists to raise awareness about intellectual property rights and a capacity-building programme designed for law enforcement officers to effectively address intellectual property infringements.

Furthermore, Major General Al Obaidly announced plans to organise the Second Gulf Conference in partnership with the Bahrain Intellectual Property Association in October, and the Fourth Arab Conference with the Arab Administrative Development Organisation at the University of Sharjah in September. The association is also set to host the 14th International Conference in collaboration with INTERPOL in November.

In concluding his statements, Major General Al Obaidly reaffirmed the association's dedication to enhancing international cooperation and advancing efforts to develop the intellectual property protection system both locally and globally. The delegation's agenda includes meetings and coordination activities with several international entities and organisations, including the International Trademark Association (INTA), the Arab Intellectual Property Bureau, and the WIPO Academy, as well as participating in dialogues with stakeholders from countries and non-governmental organisations.
