Brussels: The Council of the European Union and the European Parliament have reached an agreement that allows member states to gradually introduce the Entry/Exit digital border management system (EES) over a period of six months. This new system aims to enhance border security by digitally recording entries and exits, as well as collecting data from passports, fingerprints, and facial images of non-EU nationals who are travelling for short stays in EU member states.
According to Emirates News Agency, the introduction of the EES is expected to significantly reduce the likelihood of identity fraud and overstay. The system will allow for more efficient and secure management of non-EU nationals visiting the region, ensuring compliance with EU border regulations. Member states are gearing up to implement this system gradually, reflecting a coordinated effort to bolster border security while facilitating travel within the EU.
