Abu dhabi: The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) is set to commemorate its 80th anniversary through its strategic participation in the second edition of Abu Dhabi Global Food Week. The event, which will take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 21st to 23rd October 2025, marks a significant milestone for FAO as it continues its mission of transforming agrifood systems worldwide.
According to Emirates News Agency, FAO's involvement is spearheaded by its Subregional Office for the Gulf Cooperation Council States and Yemen, located in Abu Dhabi. This office functions as a regional hub dedicated to advancing agrifood transformation efforts, particularly within the United Arab Emirates. This year's participation holds special importance as it aligns with FAO's eight decades of leadership in addressing global hunger and promoting sustainable agriculture.
FAO, in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates, will host a series of high-level dialogues throughout the event. These discussions will focus on critical topics such as climate-smart agriculture, sustainable natural resource management, and livestock health. The organisation will also emphasize the role of artificial intelligence and data analytics in predicting potential supply and demand shocks. Furthermore, FAO plans to present findings from its flagship report, "The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World," to aid evidence-based policymaking and strategic responses to future food challenges.
Dr. Ahmad Mukhtar, FAO Representative ad interim to the UAE, highlighted the importance of this participation. He stated, "As FAO marks 80 years of service to humanity, our participation in Abu Dhabi Global Food Week reaffirms our ongoing commitment to accelerating innovation, enhancing climate resilience, and delivering data-driven solutions to support food systems at both national and global levels." Dr. Mukhtar also emphasized FAO's role in shaping the future of agrifood systems through dialogues on key issues and showcasing the application of artificial intelligence in food forecasting.
Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri, Acting Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, congratulated FAO on its anniversary and commended its contributions to global food security and sustainable agricultural development. He remarked, "FAO's participation in Global Food Week reflects the depth of our strategic partnership, which has enabled pioneering initiatives across the region and provided a platform for knowledge exchange in climate-smart agriculture, resource management, and food supply chain improvement." Dr. Al Ameri also expressed pride in the collaboration between FAO and ADAFSA, underscoring Abu Dhabi's reputation as a global center for agricultural innovation.
