Abu Dhabi: The General Women's Union (GWU) and the General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework and strategic approach for empowering women and fostering leadership in the customs sector.
According to Emirates News Agency, this MoU serves as a fundamental reference for consolidating efforts to showcase the United Arab Emirates' dedication to enhancing the roles of Emirati women in customs. The agreement aims to promote media awareness about balancing women's familial and societal roles, initiate empowerment initiatives, and facilitate contributions toward future leadership. It also seeks to enhance communication channels to strengthen collaboration between the two entities.
The collaborative framework outlined in the MoU includes the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and institutional experiences to bolster human resources, operational procedures, and capabilities. The agreement also covers joint marketing activities through digital channels and communication platforms. It aims to build women's capacities, encourage participation in non-traditional roles within customs operations, and support initiatives promoting equal opportunities and gender balance.
The General Women's Union will involve Abu Dhabi Customs in progress monitoring systems and digital services aimed at women in the UAE. The MoU also highlights collaboration to showcase achievements within customs operations, exchange expertise, and jointly organize events, workshops, and initiatives.
The MoU was signed by Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women's Union, and Rashid Lahej Al Mansoori, Director-General of the General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs. Noura Al Suwaidi praised Abu Dhabi Customs' progress in supporting women, noting that Emirati women have demonstrated capability and efficiency in customs work.
Rashid Lahej Al Mansoori emphasized the importance of women's empowerment within Abu Dhabi Customs, recognizing their contributions to development and national service. He noted that the MoU aligns with Abu Dhabi Customs' commitment to supporting women's advancement, recognizing their capabilities and innovative potential, and enabling them to play a pivotal role in maintaining Abu Dhabi Customs' global leadership position.
