Abu Dhabi:The latest edition of Global Food Week is presenting a diverse array of initiatives aimed at strengthening food security, advancing the sustainability of the agricultural sector, and boosting the competitiveness of Emirati products, according to Badr Hassan Al Shehhi, Director of Communication and Community Engagement at the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA).
According to Emirates News Agency, Al Shehhi highlighted the launch of the second edition of the Global Food Security Summit as a key event on the opening day, which also saw the unveiling of Abu Dhabi's Agricultural Transformation Strategy. This strategy is considered a significant step towards transforming the agricultural sector into a more advanced and sustainable future, with ambitious targets set to enhance the agriculture and food ecosystems.
The programme organized by ADAFSA includes the Farmers' Market and the Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Award for Agricultural Excellence pavilion, featuring around 150 farmers who are showcasing their products, innovations, and success stories. Al Shehhi noted that the participation of these farmers is a point of pride, reflecting the talent and innovation present in the UAE's agricultural sector.
Additionally, ADAFSA is launching the Abu Dhabi Honey Forum, along with specialized programmes focused on honey production. These initiatives aim to support the development of the UAE's honey production ecosystem and enhance the competitiveness of Emirati products, opening new opportunities for global market access.
The opening day of Global Food Week featured numerous significant initiatives, with more planned in the coming days to foster cooperation with both local and international stakeholders. These efforts are part of a broader mission to build a more sustainable and resilient food system, supporting local products and empowering farmers and producers, thereby contributing to the UAE's food security goals and reinforcing its status as a global hub for innovation and international collaboration in the sector.
