Kristoffer Reitan Wins Soudal Open After Thrilling Play-Off

Antwerp: Kristoffer Reitan secured his first DP World Tour title at the Soudal Open, triumphing in a dramatic play-off after setting a new course record with a stunning round of 62. Reitan began the final day nine shots behind the overnight leader, Ewen Ferguson, and teed off nearly three hours before the leading group.

According to Emirates News Agency, Reitan's record-setting performance at the Rinkven International GC allowed him to join Scotland's Ferguson and Dutchman Darius van Driel in a play-off. All three competitors made par on their first play-off attempt on the 18th hole. On their second attempt, each player managed to position their approaches closer to the hole.

Reitan ultimately emerged victorious by sinking a 15-foot putt after Ferguson and Van Driel failed to convert their chances. Reitan's remarkable day began in 23rd place, with his round including an initial birdie, a dropped shot at the third hole, and a further nine birdies that brought him to 13 under, matching Ferguson's score.

Throughout the day, contenders fell behind as Ferguson, who twice lost a shot on the initial stretch, regained his share of the lead with immediate birdies. Ferguson then birdied the eighth hole to reach 14 under but dropped a shot at the subsequent hole after landing in a bunker. This left Ferguson needing to surpass Reitan's clubhouse total on the back nine.

Ferguson's hopes waned after driving into a bunker on the 16th hole, despite a remarkable recovery shot. He ultimately parred the 17th but failed to recover from an overhit approach on the final hole. Van Driel, meanwhile, had a similarly unexpected path to the play-off, maintaining contention with 11 consecutive pars before making a crucial birdie on the 13th and finishing with a trio of birdies, including a significant 25-foot putt on the last hole.

China's Haotong Li, South African Thriston Lawrence, American Troy Merritt, and English golfers John Parry and Jordan Smith shared fourth place, all finishing at ten under.
