Paris: Lana Nusseibeh, Minister of State and Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the European Union, engaged in comprehensive discussions in Paris with Fr©d©ric Mondoloni, Director-General for Political and Security Affairs at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Anne-Claire Legendre, Advisor to the French President for the Middle East and North Africa. The meetings focused on a variety of issues of mutual concern, as well as the rapidly changing geopolitical landscape in Europe, the Middle East, and the Horn of Africa.
According to Emirates News Agency, the talks addressed the ongoing situation in Sudan, where both parties reviewed international efforts to halt the civil war and stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire, including a humanitarian truce. Nusseibeh emphasized the UAE's consistent position on achieving a peaceful resolution through an independent civilian-led transition and highlighted the necessity of providing urgent humanitarian aid to those affected in Sudan.
Nusseibeh conveyed that the UAE continues to collaborate with regional and international partners, including through the Quad, to contribute to ending the civil war. She confirmed that the latest Quad Joint Statement is a critical step in addressing the humanitarian crisis, reinforcing the message that military solutions are not viable. She also highlighted the importance of a transitional process in Sudan that excludes the warring parties and extremist groups, paving the way for a civilian-led government.
The discussions also covered the situation in the Gaza Strip. Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire to alleviate suffering and ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian aid. Nusseibeh welcomed the UN Security Council's adoption of resolution 2803 (2025), endorsing US President Trump's Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict and authorizing a temporary International Stabilisation Force in Gaza. She noted this resolution as a step towards security and stability in the region.
Nusseibeh reiterated the UAE's call for a political solution that supports a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, consistent with the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. She affirmed the UAE's unwavering support for international efforts toward lasting peace and stability in the region.
Additionally, the discussions explored ways to strengthen the partnership between the UAE and France, focusing on strategic cooperation and collaboration across priority sectors. Both nations remain committed to deepening coordination on regional stability and addressing global challenges.
