Manar Abu Dhabi Hosts Renowned EMEL and Diverse Cultural Events in December

Abu dhabi: Manar Abu Dhabi is gearing up to host a series of cultural and artistic events this December. The highlight of the month-long event is the performance by internationally acclaimed singer EMEL (Emel Mathlouthi) on Jubail Island on 20th December, 2025. Organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, Manar Abu Dhabi is part of the Public Art Abu Dhabi initiative, aiming to enrich the emirate's urban landscape through public art.

According to Emirates News Agency, EMEL's performance is part of the public programme for the second edition of Manar Abu Dhabi. The event is curated by Khai Hori, Artistic Director, and co-curated by Alia Zaal Lootah, Munira Al Sayegh, and Mariam Alshehhi. This year, the exhibition is set to take place across Jubail Island, Souq Al Mina, and, for the first time, Al Ain. It will include trails through the Al Qattara and Al Jimi Oases, which are recognized as cultural sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Complementing EMEL's performance, Love and Revenge will arrive at Manar Abu Dhabi on 10th December with Agmal layali, a tribute to Oum Kalthoum. This event will blend archival imagery and Arab musical heritage with electronic soundscapes. Furthermore, a partnership with the Italian Cultural Centre and Embassy of Italy will bring Ars Nova Napoli to the stage on 13th December. The ensemble will showcase the vibrant spirit of southern Italy, using a mix of accordion, fiddle, trumpet, mandolin, gaita bagpipes, and frame drums to highlight Neapolitan and Mediterranean traditions.

In addition to performances, Manar Abu Dhabi is committed to learning and engagement through special workshops. Participating artist Maitha Hamdan, for example, will conduct a workshop on 14th December, offering participants the chance to engage directly in the creative process and explore contemporary light art practices.

Manar Abu Dhabi is also featuring a programme dedicated to exploring climate, wellness, and connection with nature. The Environment Agency Abu Dhabi will host sessions at Jubail Island on 7th and 14th December as part of its Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative. These sessions will include activities like kayaking and citizen science projects, further underlining the event's diverse offerings.
