MBZUAI Launches WAI Initiative to Educate Youth and Seniors on AI

Abu dhabi: Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has unveiled WAI, a community initiative aimed at providing both youth and senior citizens with foundational knowledge of artificial intelligence and its real-world applications. This program is designed to foster a shared learning experience across generations, highlighting how AI can empower individuals and communities alike.

According to Emirates News Agency, the first edition of this initiative was supported by collaborative efforts from organizations such as the Abu Dhabi Youth Council and the Rabdan Volunteer Team. Their involvement was crucial in ensuring the program's reach across a diverse cross-section of participants in the UAE.

The inaugural event took place at MBZUAI's campus, where over 30 youth and 15 senior citizens participated in a day filled with learning, interaction, and discussions about AI's role in today's world. WAI offers interactive sessions designed to make AI accessible and easy to understand. Youth participants were introduced to key AI concepts and practical tools, engaging in a hands-on activity focused on prompt engineering. These sessions are crafted to spark curiosity and creativity, demonstrating how AI can boost productivity and foster innovation in personal and professional spheres.

For senior citizens, the program provided an engaging introduction to artificial intelligence and its practical applications. Participants explored fundamental AI concepts through relevant examples, learned to use beginner-friendly tools, and participated in an interactive prompt-engineering activity. The event concluded with a discussion and Q and A session, encouraging participants to reflect on their experiences.

All participants were awarded certificates of completion, acknowledging their engagement and learning. Rawdha Almeraikhi, Director of Outreach at MBZUAI, emphasized the initiative's aim to bridge generational gaps and ensure AI is understood and embraced by all, stating, "Through WAI, we aim to bridge generations by empowering the youth to lead with curiosity and ensuring that our elders also remain connected in an increasingly digital world."
