MoEI Evaluates Energy Efficiency Technologies for Hyperscale Data Centres

Abu dhabi: Sharif Al Olama, Under-Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), has announced that Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026 is showcasing broad participation from leading global companies presenting the latest technologies and innovative solutions in renewable energy.

According to Emirates News Agency, Al Olama stated that the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is focusing on exploring and assessing technologies to enhance energy consumption efficiency in hyperscale data centres. The ministry anticipates significant energy savings within these centres, which will positively impact the UAE's energy sector, especially as these centres expand to support the digital economy and artificial intelligence.

Al Olama explained that the ministry collaborates with the UAE's Artificial Intelligence Council to develop mechanisms and standards for classifying hyperscale data centres, ensuring energy efficiency and optimal resource use. He emphasized the importance of improving hyperscale data centres' efficiency, noting variations in energy consumption due to cooling system challenges.

Additionally, Al Olama highlighted the Ministry's launch of the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance, the first international platform uniting over 40 countries, governments, the private sector, and international organizations. The alliance aims to double the global rate of energy efficiency improvement to more than 4 percent annually by 2030, aligning with international climate commitments.

He further noted that the alliance serves as a practical platform for exchanging expertise and developing innovative solutions, offering countries the chance to benefit from the UAE's experience in reducing consumption and enhancing energy efficiency. Al Olama stressed that leading this alliance enhances the UAE's position as a globally inspiring country, fostering an environment for partnerships and international investments in the sustainable energy sector.
