Abu dhabi: Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, received members of COMSTECH, the Scientific and Technological Cooperation Committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), at his Majlis in Abu Dhabi. The meeting was led by Seema A. Khan and coincided with the activities of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting focused on international cooperation in education, research and development, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Discussions emphasized climate and environment-related issues and the importance of sustainable development models that address societal needs.
The dialogue also explored unifying efforts among international and regional institutions to enhance knowledge exchange. This approach aims to establish partnerships capable of developing practical solutions to shared challenges.
The meeting highlighted openness and constructive dialogue to strengthen multilateral cooperation. It supported initiatives balancing economic development with environmental protection while reinforcing values of tolerance, coexistence, and peace. The importance of inclusive platforms for idea exchange was emphasized, fostering an environment for international partnerships in sustainability, green economy, and innovation empowerment.
COMSTECH, a specialized OIC body, promotes cooperation in science, technology, and innovation among member states. It supports scientific research, capacity building, and partnerships among academic institutions, research centers, and sectors, advancing sustainable development and addressing common challenges.
Committee members included Eduardo Pedrosa, Romina Khurshid Alam, Antonio Basilio, Sergey Kanavskiy, Zhou Yiping, Erik Solheim, William Wang, Dr. Mohamed Bashir Kharrubi, Kristian Flyvholm, Amber Sun, and Tehreem Kanwal.
