Washington: Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, led the UAE delegation in a high-level meeting in Washington, DC, upon the invitation of US President Donald Trump. The meeting brought together senior leaders from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Rwanda to finalize a peace agreement between the two countries.
According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE's involvement underscores its expanding role in supporting regional stability and promoting security and development throughout Africa. Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan emphasized that the peace process between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda is rooted in the conviction that dialogue is fundamental to achieving security and sustainable development.
He reiterated the UAE's steadfast commitment to collaborating with international partners to ensure the peace agreement's implementation and to help end regional tensions. He highlighted the UAE's support for regional and international efforts aimed at fostering security and stability in Africa and globally, as well as advancing sustainable solutions that fulfill the aspirations of people for development, peace, and prosperity.
Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan also acknowledged the progress made by the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda in recent months and praised the constructive engagement of both parties in peace efforts. He described the current situation as a historic opportunity that requires reinforcement through clear commitments and effective oversight mechanisms to alleviate human suffering in conflict-affected areas.
Furthermore, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan expressed appreciation for the United States' efforts in hosting the meeting and emphasized the importance of joint action and regional and international partnerships. He highlighted the crucial roles of the United States, the State of Qatar, and the support of the African Union in strengthening peace and stability across the African continent.
