Sharjah Ruler Honors University of Exeter’s Legacy at Gulf Alumni Ceremony

Sharjah: H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, attended the University of Exeter Gulf Alumni Association Ceremony, held at the Dr. Sultan Al-Qasimi Centre. In his speech, he reflected on his journey as a PhD student at the University of Exeter over 40 years ago, praising its growth into a leading academic institution.

According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Dr. Sultan emphasized the profound influence the University of Exeter has had on his academic and personal growth, evident in his writings and historical research. He expressed his commitment to maintaining collaboration between the university and Sharjah's academic institutions.

H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan concluded by reiterating his support for the University of Exeter, appreciating its reputation that attracts students globally. Dr. Lisa Roberts, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter, expressed gratitude for Sheikh Dr. Sultan's support and highlighted the university's partnership with Sharjah, including a new Bachelor's program in Geological Sciences with the University of Al Dhaid.

Dr. Roberts mentioned the expanding partnership, noting a recent visit by marine science students from the University of Khorfakkan to Exeter. She celebrated Sheikh Dr. Sultan's visit to Exeter, where he received the Honorary President's Medal, the first such award in the university's history.

A video showcased Sheikh Dr. Sultan's contributions to education and research, and Dr. Brendan Godley presented on the Sharjah Marine Research Centre, a collaboration between Exeter and Khorfakkan, detailing its facilities and research projects.

The ceremony concluded with Dr. Roberts presenting a commemorative gift to Sheikh Dr. Sultan, who also hosted a dinner for Gulf region Exeter graduates. The event was attended by various Sharjah officials and University of Exeter alumni.
