Today’s Newspapers Continue To Focus On The Post-Approval Of The Budget And The Celebration Of The Iraqi National Press Day

The newspapers issued in Baghdad today, Thursday, the fifteenth of June, continued their focus in the post-approval of the budget, the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate’s celebration of the Iraqi National Press Day, and other economic, political and security issues.

On the first issue, Al-Sabah newspaper, published by the Iraqi Media Network, said: “The tumultuous political confrontations ended under the dome of Parliament after the approval of the federal budget, which faced several obstacles that almost ravaged the political scene and brought back the previous stalemate, had it not been for the last-minute deals and dialogues that led to that the parliament continued to hold its sessions until the early hours of dawn for four difficult days for the Iraqis, which suggests a fierce electoral battle in all regions.

The researcher and academic, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Issawi, told Al-Sabah: “The political conflicts before and during the approval of the general budget sent advance indications that the electoral battle will be fierce, and that some political battles became clear in conjunction with the vote on the budget,” indicating that there are “deferred conflicts” because of the budget, the political forces needed each other to complete the quorum and vote.

Al-Issawi expected that “the coming weeks will witness a form of electoral conflicts, with talk of the emergence of new political forces in a number of governorates and with new names that harmonize local elections, which are a prelude to previously unknown alliances,” noting that “local elections differ from legislative elections because of their law, and this is what influence the nature of alliances.”

While the academic and political analyst d, Haider Ali, told “Al-Sabah”: “The state’s general budget has always been a source of problems because of its impact on the coherence of political agreements and the financial dimension of the state, in addition to other gains sought by parties involved in forming the government.”

Al-Zawraa newspaper, published by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, continued to follow the Journalists Syndicate’s celebration of the Iraqi National Press Day.

In this regard, it said: “Today, Thursday, the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate receives well-wishers on the 154th anniversary of the Iraqi Press Day at its headquarters in Karrada Maryam in Baghdad, while the Supreme Committee for the Iraqi National Press Day celebrations began implementing the special program for the celebrations.”

Al-Zawraa quoted the head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, President of the Federation of Arab Journalists, Muayyad al-Lami, as saying: “Iraqi journalists, from the beginning, with their brothers in the armed security forces and the popular mobilization, confronted terrorism of all kinds, and they also stood with the health staff in the first line to confront the Corona pandemic.”

Al-Lami added: “The Iraqi press gave hundreds of martyrs and wounded in the war with terrorism,” noting: “The Iraqi journalist has courage and presence, and this has been proven in more than one field.”

He stressed, “Iraqi journalists are more capable of consolidating the concepts of freedom and democracy in Iraq after the great sacrifices they made.”

Regarding the celebration of the Iraqi National Press Day, Al-Lami said: “More than 150 journalists and media figures representing major press institutions, in addition to a number of Arab ministers of culture and information, were invited to attend the celebration and see closely the urban renaissance taking place in Baghdad, and convey the bright picture of Iraq to their countries.”

He added: “The Supreme Committee for the celebration of this occasion continues its meetings to put the final touches to the celebration program, which will include receiving well-wishers at the headquarters of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, then receiving media delegations at Baghdad International Airport, the provincial festival in Al-Zawraa Park, and the mass celebration in the cultural and social center of “One Thousand and One Nights” in Adhamiya.” Then the central celebration that will be held in Al-Zawraa Hall at Al-Rasheed Hotel, as well as hosting the meetings of the permanent office and the General Secretariat of the Federation of Arab Journalists.

On the economic issue, Al-Zaman newspaper said: “Iraq and Turkey are scheduled to start technical talks next week, regarding the resumption of oil exports from northern Iraq.”

The newspaper quoted an unnamed source as saying that discussions at the technical level regarding the resumption of exports between Iraq and Turkey are scheduled to take place over the weekend or early next week.

The source added: “This does not mean the resumption of exports immediately, because this decision requires high-level political talks,” indicating that “a Turkish energy delegation is expected to arrive in Baghdad, but it has not set a date yet.”

While referring to the statement of an official in the North Oil Company: “The Turkish state energy company said that the pipeline needs further technical examination before restarting, and it will send a technical note regarding the status of the pipeline in the coming days.”
