Brussels: Members of the European Parliament's trade committee approved the EU-US trade deal, paving the way for its final adoption in June, despite some MEPs' concerns over US President Donald Trump's coercive approach.
According to Emirates News Agency, lawmakers on the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade approved legislation eliminating EU duties on most US industrial goods. This move sets the stage for the final adoption of the EU-US deal in the plenary session later this month.
Under the terms of the EU-US deal, the European Union has agreed to maintain a 15% tariff rate on US products while committing to reducing its own tariffs on US goods entering the bloc to zero. This development follows a provisional agreement reached last week between EU lawmakers and EU capitals, building on an agreement initially struck last summer by US President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Turnberry, Scotland.
The final adoption of this crucial agreement is scheduled for 16 June, marking a significant step in EU-US trade relations.
