Trump Alters Tariffs on Steel, Aluminum, Copper Imports to Boost Industrial Base

Washington: US President Donald Trump has signed a proclamation amending tariffs on certain aluminum, steel, and copper imports, as announced by the White House. This move is part of an effort to adjust existing Section 232 security tariffs.

According to Emirates News Agency, the proclamation reduces tariffs on some steel and aluminum derivative products. These adjustments include a decrease to 15 percent from the previous 25 percent on items such as certain types of agricultural machinery and residential heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment.

Furthermore, the proclamation stipulates that mobile industrial equipment, including bulldozers and forklifts, will now face a 15 percent tariff. This applies specifically when these products are imported from trade deal countries eligible for such treatment, as per the White House statement.

The newly implemented changes are set to remain active until December 31, 2027. The White House has stated that this timeline aims to encourage near-term investments that will contribute to rebuilding the nation's industrial base.
