Geneva: Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the UAE Parliamentary Division of the Federal National Council (FNC) to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), emphasized that adherence to international humanitarian law is not merely a legal obligation but a guarantee for justice and human dignity during his address to the 151st IPU General Assembly in Geneva. Dr. Al Nuaimi pointed out that the politicisation of humanitarian work amid conflicts and crises worldwide has emerged as one of the most pressing challenges for parliamentarians. He urged that humanitarian efforts should transcend political and geographical divisions.
According to Emirates News Agency, Dr. Al Nuaimi conveyed the greetings of the United Arab Emirates, a nation that believes in shared human values which unite people and help overcome divisions and suffering. He stated that humanity suffers when laws and principles are not upheld while addressing global crises. He urged parliaments to collaborate and unite in addressing conflicts and humanitarian challenges, highlighting that millions globally still face hunger, fear, and lack access to essential services like healthcare, education, and clean water.
Dr. Al Nuaimi also underscored the UAE's leading role in humanitarian and charitable efforts, especially in Africa and other regions. This role is driven by the belief that global stability and prosperity are shared responsibilities. He noted that building partnerships and promoting mutual values are essential for a better future for all.
