Abu Dhabi’s Emergencies Centre and Finnish National Rescue Association Explore Collaborative Efforts

Abu dhabi: The Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre Abu Dhabi (ADCMC) recently embarked on an official visit to the Finnish National Rescue Association (SPEK) to explore international best practices in emergency management and to discuss potential areas for cooperation. The visit also included interactions with several relevant Finnish entities.

According to Emirates News Agency, the delegation was led by Dr. Abdulla Hamarain Al Dhaheri, the Executive Director of the Response and Recovery Sector at ADCMC. During the visit, the delegation presented their strategy for managing emergencies, crises, and disasters in Abu Dhabi. This included a detailed overview of the operational model employed by the centre within the emirate's emergency and crisis management ecosystem.

SPEK shared their models related to institutional and community preparedness. This encompassed training, exercises, planning procedures, and advanced capabilities. They also highlighted various volunteer initiatives and civil preparedness strategies, including the innovative 72-hour preparedness concept. Additionally, they outlined the coordination mechanisms employed among the relevant response agencies.

Dr. Al Dhaheri noted that the visit was in line with the centre's commitment to the Abu Dhabi Government's vision of enhancing international cooperation and exchanging expertise with global leaders in emergency, crisis, and disaster management. He emphasized that such efforts are crucial in boosting the emirate's preparedness and capacity to anticipate and respond to evolving challenges, while also showcasing the centre's specialized capabilities.

He stated that ADCMC is continuously working to improve its tools and methodologies in crisis management by reviewing the latest operational models and internationally recognized practices. This involves drawing on exceptional global experiences in community preparedness, training, and institutional capacity building. The visit to the Finnish National Rescue Association provided valuable insights into a unique model that integrates technological innovation with institutional integration within the preparedness and response ecosystem.

Dr. Al Dhaheri further added that the centre aims to align its local systems with global standards by strengthening resilience, advancing smart response capabilities, and developing joint programmes. These efforts are geared towards enhancing team performance, preparing local talent, and ensuring community safety and sustainable development.
