Sharjah: The Board of the Emirates Publishers Association (EPA) held its second meeting of its ninth term, focusing on key agenda items to enhance the sustainability of the UAE's publishing sector and boost its regional and global presence. By empowering local publishers, the Board aims to open new international market opportunities.
According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting began with the approval of the minutes from the General Assembly and the previous Board meeting. This set the stage for discussions on the Association's achievements in 2024 and the first half of 2025, alongside the action plan for the latter half of the current year. Upcoming cultural participations in international book fairs, particularly the Beijing International Book Fair, were also examined.
The Board reiterated its dedication to advancing the national publishing sector's growth and sustainability by empowering Emirati publishers. Establishing direct channels with global institutions and exploring joint cooperation opportunities were key points of discussion. The importance of building literary bridges through direct meetings focused on the sale and acquisition of publishing and translation rights was also emphasized.
The Board expressed its commitment to continuing the cultural journey initiated by the Emirates Publishers Association since its inception. Amira Bukadra, President of the EPA Board, highlighted the meeting as a strategic milestone for expanding Emirati cultural influence globally and contributing to the UAE's creative economy.
In her comments, Bukadra reaffirmed the Association's commitment to aligning with the guidance of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Founder and Honorary President of the EPA. She praised Sheikha Bodour's inspiring leadership, which motivates the EPA to strengthen the global competitiveness and impact of Emirati publishers.
