Abu dhabi: The Economic and Social Council of the League of Arab States convened its 118th ministerial session, with the United Arab Emirates among the participating nations. The session saw attendance from Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, along with Arab economy ministers and representatives from member states.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Council focused on several pressing economic and development topics, with discussions covering support for the Palestinian economy, Arab food security, and the ongoing implementation of the Arab Program for Sustainable Food Security. The session also addressed the 2020-2030 Arab Sustainable Agricultural Development Strategy, the Arab Strategy For Sustainable Management Of Pastoral Resources 2020-2040, and the Arab Aquaculture Strategy 2018-2037.

Further deliberations included an Arab strategy aimed at bolstering labour inspection bodies and preparing labour markets in the Syrian Arab Republic during its recovery and reconstruction phase. Additionally, the Council considered support measures for the Industrial and Commercial Institute to enhance the export sector in Yemen, contributing to its reconstruction and economic recovery plan.

The session also reviewed topics proposed for inclusion in the economic and social dossier at the summit level during the 35th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States. Arab-international cooperation in social and development fields was a key point, along with reports and resolutions from specialised Arab ministerial councils and technical and permanent committees. The Council also evaluated Arab efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

Developments related to the Greater Arab Free Trade Area and the Arab Customs Union were also on the agenda, as these are pivotal issues frequently addressed by the Economic and Social Council.
